Project location - Remote (US time zones preferred) Project manager

Independent Contractor Contact name - Keely Johnstone Contact email

Potrero Ave, San Francisco, CA, 94103 Project background - We’re
looking for a part-time contractor to help turn Faire’s marketplace
data into clear, compelling stories about what’s happening in
independent retail and why it matters. You will work closely with
Comms, Content, Analytics, and subject-matter experts to surface
meaningful insights, connect them to broader industry context, and
package them into content that is publishable, press-ready, and
genuinely interesting. Deliverables - Mine Proprietary Insights:
Operate with total autonomy in Mode and Looker. You don't wait for
a data scientist to hand you a report; you proactively explore
cohorts and marketplace dynamics to find the "hidden" narratives
yourself. Build Our Data System: Build a repeatable system for
turning raw marketplace signals into "High-Signal" stories. You are
responsible for the technical accuracy and the strategic "hook" of
every data point we release. AEO & Authority Optimization: You
understand how to use entity-rich data so that Faire becomes the
"Source of Truth" for both human journalists and LLMs Strategic
Trend Mapping: Connect Faire’s internal data to global
macro-economic shifts. You’ll position our platform as the
definitive pulse of independent retail by creating stories that
have relevance far beyond our own ecosystem. Format Strategy:
Determine the optimal vehicle for data delivery. Whether it's a
press-ready visual, a clinical executive memo, or a long-form
report, you ensure the data is packaged for maximum impact and
machine-readability. Rapid-Response Data Support: Act as an
editorial "first responder." When the news cycle shifts, you can
pull the relevant data and draft a credible, "Executive-Ready"
perspective in hours, not days. Full-Stack Execution: Own the
process from the initial data query to the final press-ready draft.
You maintain an elite bar for quality—accurate, well-sourced, and
written with sharp, clinical conviction. Impact Measurement:
Partner with PR and Content teams to track the "Authority Lift" of
work—measuring Qualifications - 6-8 years of experience in data
journalism, economic research, or strategic communications within a
high-growth tech environment or a top-tier newsroom. Technical Data
Proficiency: Proven ability to work autonomously in Mode, Looker,
or Tableau. You should be comfortable navigating complex datasets
and performing your own basic SQL queries to validate a story.
Mastery of Narrative Architecture: A portfolio that demonstrates
the ability to turn dry, complex datasets into compelling stories
that are cited by major media outlets or institutional investors.
AEO: Deep understanding of how the modern information ecosystem
works. You know how to structure content with the entity-rich data
required to dominate AI-generated search results (LLMs).
Economic/Retail Fluency: A sophisticated understanding of
marketplace dynamics, small business economics, and global retail
trends. You can talk "macro" with ease. Elite Editorial Standards:
You write with Clinical Conviction. You have an obsession with
accuracy, a "zero-edit" bar for quality, and a smart, human tone
that avoids corporate jargon. High-Agency Execution: Experience
operating as a "department of one" or leading high-impact projects
from inception to completion with minimal oversight. Visual
Literacy: Ability to work with designers to translate data into
"press-ready" charts and infographics, or the ability to build
clean, compelling visuals yourself. Supplies needed - Computer;
email address; regular and reliable internet access; Supplies we
will provide - Faire Accounts access Expected hours per week - 20
Contract Length - 6 months Payment terms - Contractor to submit
invoices for hours worked, and the contractor will be paid as 1099.
Contractor shall invoice Faire for Services once per month, with
each invoice due and payable within thirty (30) days of Faire’s
receipt of the invoice. California & New York Pay Transparency: The
pay range for this role is $150 - $170 per hour. Actual hourly pay
will be determined based on permissible factors such as
transferable skills, work experience, market demands, and primary
work location. The pay range provided is subject to change and may
be modified in the future. Outside consultants are to submit
proposals using the application form. This is a contract
opportunity.
