overview The Oncology Registered Nurse provides specialized
inpatient acute oncology care on a dedicated oncology unit during
night shifts, including safe administration and monitoring of IV
chemotherapy. This role is ideal for experienced oncology nurses
who excel in high-acuity settings and are committed to delivering
compassionate, evidence-based cancer care. Key responsibilities
Deliver comprehensive inpatient acute oncology nursing care for
adults receiving chemotherapy, immunotherapy, and supportive or
palliative treatments. Administer and monitor IV chemotherapy and
related therapies while adhering to oncology and cytotoxic safety
standards. Use EPIC EMR for accurate documentation of assessments,
chemotherapy administration, lab results, and care plans. Monitor
patient responses, recognize early signs of complications such as
infusion reactions, neutropenia, and sepsis, and intervene
promptly. Float to medical-surgical units as needed to support
inpatient staffing while maintaining oncology standards of care.
Collaborate with physicians, pharmacists, navigators, and the
broader interdisciplinary team to coordinate individualized care
plans. Educate patients and families about treatment regimens, side
effects, symptom management, and available support resources.
Required qualifications Active California RN license. Current BLS
and ACLS certifications. ONC/chemotherapy certification or
equivalent chemotherapy/biotherapy provider training. Minimum 2
years of recent inpatient acute oncology nursing experience with
proven IV chemotherapy administration. Recent EPIC charting
experience in an inpatient or oncology setting Core competencies
Advanced oncology clinical expertise, including chemotherapy
administration, symptom management, and care of immunocompromised
patients. Strong assessment, critical thinking, and escalation
skills in a night-shift acute care environment. Adaptability and
teamwork, with the ability to float between oncology and med/surg
units while maintaining high standards of care. Rigorous attention
to safety, infection control, and regulatory compliance, especially
regarding cytotoxic handling and central line care. 5 Benefits of
