Job Summary


The IR Technologist must be certified and demonstrate competency in performing injection procedures necessary for IR. This Technologist must demonstrate the ability to perform IR exams in both the inpatient and outpatient environment, be able to work safely in an acute care setting and be able to interact accordingly with anesthesia and other patient care departments that visit the IR environment. Additionally, the IR Technologist must participate with the training of students and new hires when necessary.

The IR Technologist advanced responsibilities can include, yet are not limited to the following:

  • Demonstrate competency actively and participate in the lead/coordinator role.
  • Active participation in an annual performance improvement project or active participation in IR
  • Quality Assurance/Radiation Safety meetings.
  • Demonstrate competency and the ability to instruct one or more of the advanced procedures. This position requires the individual to be flexible in their work schedule. This individual is considered an advanced-level IR Tech. The ability to self-direct and to organize a varied workload is required. This incumbent demonstrates competency in assisting with VIR, Neuro Endovascular procedures and Vascular Surgery procedures from newborn thru geriatric patient population.

    The final salary and offer components are subject to additional approvals based on UC policy.Your placement within the salary range is dependent on a number of factors including your work experience and internal equity within this position classification at UCSF. For positions that are represented by a labor union, placement within the salary range will be guided by the rules in the collective bargaining agreement.The salary range for this position is $71.17 - $96.39hr (Hourly Rate) depending on classification hired into.     Department Description

    UCSF Health's radiology department has been on the forefront of medical imaging for more than a century. In fact, a number of radiology advancements and applications were developed here. From screening and diagnosis to treatment planning and monitoring response to treatment, radiology is an essential tool in delivering effective, personalized medical care.We offer the full spectrum of imaging techniques, using the most advanced equipment. We perform more than 600,000 imaging procedures annually.


    Required Qualifications

    Sr. IR Technologist qualifications:
    • Minimum Three (3) years of experience in practicing modality in an acute care setting.
    • Graduate of a JCERT accredited radiology technology training program.
    • Flexibility in scheduling, with the ability to rotate shifts and coverage for weekends and holidays. Must be willing to assist at any of the UCSF Medical Center Locations
    • Must be willing to learn and train in Neuro-IR and Body-IR
    • Must be willing to circulate and fill scrubbing roles during procedures as necessary.
    • Ability to self-direct and organize a varied workload.
    • Competency: Body IR and Neuro IR
    • ARRT Licensure
    • CRT Licensure
    • BLS Certification
    • CRT Fluoroscopy licensure
    • AART (VRI) within six months of hire.Principal IR Technologist qualifications:
      • Minimum Seven (7) years of experience in practicing modality in an acute care setting
      • Graduate of a JCERT accredited radiology technology training program.
      • Flexibility in scheduling, with the ability to rotate shifts and coverage for weekends and holidays. Must be willing to assist at any of the UCSF Medical Center Locations
      • Must be willing to learn and train in Neuro-IR and Body-IR
      • Must be willing to circulate and fill scrubbing roles during procedures as necessary.
      • Ability to self-direct and organize a varied workload.
